Painted Wall Plaster with Graffiti
Findspot: Causeway LaneThis fragment of painted wall plaster has the word LLITARIS scratched onto it. Due to the nature of graffiti, it is often thought that this graffiti is part of an obscene phrase in Latin, perhaps relating to ‘fellitatis’ from the word fellito.
The Roman mural that this section comes from was painted on to the wall while the plaster still wet, making the painted patterns a part of the wall itself.
